By Mohan Arasan Kumar

The Covid-19 pandemic has hit hard on every industry. Throughout industries, multiple stages of retrenchment have been rolled out since last year. This has affected many individuals, and they are left clueless, jobless, and severely impacted by the sudden loss of income.

To combat this issue, our Ex-Prime Minister YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced the Penjana Kerjaya Hiring Incentive Program (HIP) as part of the National Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) on 5th June 2020. This is an initiative under the Ministry of Human Resources and SOCSO, that gives employers a cash bonus for hiring a new worker as a way to increase employment rate.

With 2 batches having been rolled out, and the third one ongoing, employers and employees have been reaping benefits from this program. To know more, you may visit https://www.perkeso.gov.my/en/penjana-gig/186-penjana/796-pelan-jana-semula-ekonomi-negara-penjana.html

1.Official Document Verification

Once hired under the Penjana Kerjaya program, immediately check with your new HR for double confirmation and do sign on the relevant documents for official verification. This process is necessary for any employer to get a subsidy for their payroll process. You may request a copy for your own reference.

2.Mobility Assistance

You are eligible for a claim either RM500 or RM1000 depending on the kilometer scale of your commute to work. This is a one-off payment to help your traveling expenses to your workplace.

3.Training Incentive

Jeng, jeng, jeng. Here comes the jackpot! If you are newly hired under any Penjana scheme, you are qualified to undergo a training program as part of reskilling & upskilling based on the job/industry requirement. 4.Third-party intervention

Any application with regards to the Penjana program is to be done by the employers. In some cases, a third party may have access to the system where there might be a violation of data, resulting in unforeseen circumstances. Please make sure the application is solely done by your employer and not third parties.

5.Have some fun and give your best

It might be overwhelming and sometimes exhausting to get used to the new hiring system but don’t forget to have some fun. Have fun learning in your new environment, undergo training programs with enthusiasm and give your best.

In short, create a checklist and tick those boxes as you go along. Set some goals, and network. Connect with your supervisor and communicate with senior colleagues on how you can achieve your tasks, and align yourself with the goals and aspirations of your company.

Most importantly, enjoy your new job. Good luck!!
